RED SCHOOL
Red District High School is located in the mining community of Red Town, 800km north east of Perth and 240km north of the regional centre, Kalgoorlie. The population of the town is approximately 700. Red Town is on the edge of the Central Desert region; featuring hot summers, cool winters and a very low rainfall. The location of the town is quite beautiful as the surrounding countryside is the home to an abundance of wildlife including large numbers of kangaroos, emus and wedge tailed eagles. Wildflowers can be witnessed in the months July to September. Plus the area's salt lakes, granite formations and Aboriginal rock art add to the natural drama throughout the year.

Red Town is a remote and diverse setting. Rich local support and a school staffed by committed members who embrace the challenge of living in a remote setting are said to be factors that make Red Town a positive place live.

Established in 1900 in the North Eastern Goldfields, Red Town was developed as a gold mining town. Since then the fluctuating nature of the town and other remote communities like Red Town has been a result of these areas relying on mining for survival. There are currently three major mines in the area.
