Blackwood Brook, named after the river nearby, offers a picturesque country town experience to visitors without venturing too far from the comforts of a regional centre. Located 235km from Perth and only 70km from Bunbury, it is an accessible three-hour-drive from the city on the South Western Highway. This stunning town is close to the major wine centres of the south west, while offering its own heritage and wildlife attractions and small town charm. It is close to forests and national parks, with a range of walks and tours available displaying the lovely wildflowers in spring and several heritage sites. Founded in 1863, shortly after the other towns in Greenbushes-Bridgetown shire, the town is one of the oldest in the southwest and still prides itself on the beautiful St Marks church and the original school, which was built in 1871. Tours of these sites can be arranged through the information centre. A close distance to Bridgetown and Margaret River, the town is in the perfect position for day trips to the regions award-winning wineries and white-water rafting on the Blackwood River. The town also has two wineries of its own, many galleries and craft stores; as well the Country Music Festival the town is renowned for. This festival runs for the last week in the October, with many local and national artists featuring. This is the perfect opportunity to come and see what our town has to offer.
The town is predominantly an agriculture town, specialising in fruits and wine, as with towns surrounding. Many from the town work also work at the tantalum and lithium mines and the timber mill in the neighbouring town of Greenbushes. Blackwood Brook offers a range of cafes, restaurants and accommodations as well as a medical centre, pharmacy, shopping centre, ANZ bank and a District High School which caters from Kindergarten to Year Ten. Most students travel to Manjimup Senior High for year eleven and twelve. This town, with a population of 2000, offers a small town experience where you have the opportunity to really be part of the community.
