The Thompsons are representative of many of the type of young families that call Parlkarra home. Ben and Laura Thompson moved to Parlkarra with their eldest son Jake(8yrs) in 2005. Since then they have had two new additions to their family, Brad (5yrs) and Lucy (2yrs). Ben works as an electrician for Parlkarra Mine and Laura has recently started working part time doing admin work for the same company. Jake attends Parlkarra District High School and is currently in year 3. Middle child Brad will soon be starting year 1 while Lucy often spends time at the day care centre on the days Laura is working.
Ben says "Parlkarra has been a great place to raise a family, the kids love playing outdoors and Jake and I are really starting to get into the sporting culture of the town." Lucy states that moving to the community was "scary and hard at first" but praises the community and Parlkarra Mine for helping her family get settled in the town.
