As a district high school with 36 years of history, Parlkarra DHS is proudly catering for students from Kindergarten to Year 10 from surrounding districts, including Banyjima, Kurrama, Wakuthuni and Innawonga Aboriginal communities.
Since becoming an independent Public School (IPS) in 2011, we now have had greater autonomy and increased ability to set the future directions of our school with the opportunity to reflect on what we are doing now and seriously consider where we would like to go in the future.
We are proud of a full range of facilities, including several computer laboratories, interactive whiteboards, internet access, external and internal email systems, an air-conditioned gymnasium and a Performing Arts Centre that can seat 250 people. Our student are enjoying the modern and well designed learning areas. The school library contains a large ranges of books, audio-visual resources and computers to access the Internet.
Here we offer a creative, welcoming and supportive learning environment to all students. We strive to ensure that our students develop the knowledge, skills and confidence to achieve their full individual potential and to make positive contributions to society. For those who may be at educational risk, we have an intervention program which involved the Inclusive Learning coordinator, the School Psychologist, the Getting it Right in Literacy and mainstream teachers (Tom Price SHS website, 2012).
With the school's motto being "Education, tradition, community", we highly value our positive relationship with the community. With an active and supportive P&C, strong community support and input into our programs, and committed, highly experienced and talented staff and superb student leaders, Parlkarra DHS is thriving on this red earth.
