Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander ProgramThe Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Program offers a range of opportunities to Indigenous students, especially those identified as needing extra assistance in and out of the classroom. The Indigenous Education Room was established in 2010 as a safe environment for students and their families to meet and discuss their education and receive help from our Aboriginal and Islander Education Officers. ActivateActivate was establised with the help of the West Coast Egales and Perth Wildcats. The program is available to junior years with the focus on the importance of active and healthy lifestyles. The program is available to senior years as a reward and incentive system that depends on attendance and behaviour. The program promotes an active and healthy lifestyle, as well as leadership, responsibility and teamwork. (Newman Senior High School, 2012)
CadetsThe Parlkarra emergency services team works with the school to facilitate the Cadets program that is available to year 8 - 10 students, with the option to continue the program at Tom Price Senior High School. Students work with the emergency services team to learn fire safety, first aid, navigation and bushcraft (Tom Price Senior High School, 2012)
Parlkarra Mine PartnershipParlkarra Mine is a crucial part of the Parlkarra community and works with the school to provide opportunities for students to develop skills and knowledge to transition into future learning and possible employment in the mining industry. The program is available to year 10 students, with the option to continue the program at Tom Price Senior High School. The program gives students hands-on, real life experiences working in the mining industry, while students who choose to continue the program into year 11-12 will complete work experience while studying towards WACE and TAFE qualifications (Tom Price Senior High School, 2012)
SIDEParlkarra District High School works with Schools of Isolated and Distance Education (SIDE) to provide learning support resources and a comprehensive choice of TEE and vocational courses. (Tom Price Senior High School, 2012)
Pastoral CarePastrol-care.jpgHere at Parlkarra, as well as taking care of students' educational needs, we offer a Pastoral Care program that offers services that cater to students' health and wellbeing. Some of the services we offer are: a Breakfast Club, a Homework Club, after school sports and Teaching Social Skills (Paraburdoo Primary School, 2012)
