On Wednesday 24th October 2012, representatives from Parlkarra Mine came to Parlkarra DHS to hold a workshop for the year 9 and 10 students. Students were encouraged to continue study at Tom Price SHS for future university careers and pathways. The sessions were held for one and a half hours, and the students enjoyed the chance to hear what university life is like and where it can lead to.
The workshop showed the students how completing a degree can open doors to career pathways that may lead them almost anywhere including around Australia and around the world.
The students intently listened to the speakers and appeared to be more enthusiastic about selecting options for themselves afterwards. Hopefully this will see more students striving to achieve their best in the future to reach university level acceptance in their studies.
Thank you to Lisa McNab, Chris Bond, Bill Lindsay and Gary Hanson from Parlkarra Mine for organising this opportunity for our students. It was an excellent occasion for the students to hear real life situations of how university entrance can lead to jobs in many areas including mining.
High School Atheletics Carnival 2012
The high school students had a busy start in Term 4 preparing themselves for the Athletics Carnival 2012, which was held on Friday 2nd November. The high school boys have been practising their throwing, relay and flag races, and the girls have been extremely helpful by assisting marking out the team game dots on the oval. The exciting annual event which everyone was looking forward to has again turned out to be a great success. Atheletes of Euro, Flying Fox and Bungarra were all doing their best.
The day was filled with fun, sunshine, broken records and some extremely competitive events. Broken or equalled records included Sonya Houston equalling the Year 8 Girls High Jump record with 1.35m. David Mullen broke the Year 8 Boys record with a huge 1.50m clearance. In the end the scores were tallied up and Euro could not complete their double finishing on 1260 points. Flying Fox finished on 1335 points after battling hard all day but could not match the powerhouse of Bungarra who finished well clear on 1478 points. Bungarra staff and students were ecstatic with their victory.

Attendance Reward Recesses
Over the third Semester of 2012 the primary students who have attended 90-100% on a fortnightly basis have been rewarded with the opportunity to attend a Reward Recess. At each of the Reward Recesses the students are treated to a free feed of lollies, fruit boxes and chips. Each fortnight there is a different activity for these students to participate in. The students have enjoyed discos, fishing, making kites, watching movies, and playing party games. The students that attend the Reward Recesses are also acknowledged with a certificate and encouraged to be proud of their achievements and share their success with their Families.
