Facilities and Heritage

Blackwood Brook takes its name from the Blackwood River, upon where the first stone was settled in 1863.

TheBlackwood River runs through the most South-West part of town, and stretches all the way down through Augusta to the Southern Ocean. Many of our local residents love to pitch a tent and camp on the riverside, have a bit of adventure on our white-water rafting courses, or simply relax on a scenic charter-boat tour. You’ll be amazed at just how beautiful it is once you’re floating peacefully upon its gentle ripples.

Of course, no South-West town would be complete without a heritage museum dedicated to the first settler of Blackwood Brook, Norm Walters. The museum is small, but still encompasses the finest of old artwork, photos, items and statements from some of the very first residents. Not to forget, an interactive tour of the town and Blackwood. But why just watch it when you can experience it for yourself!

Blackwood Brook is home to over 1000 residents who simply love the South-West lifestyle. Green trees, open spaces, the sound of birds chirping and wind rustling through the trees; all the simple pleasures one experiences at “the Brook”. With the residential area and schools separated to the rest of the town by the South Western Road, residents get that sense of privacy, yet also the comfort of knowing they are only a short walk or drive to all the shops, sporting facilities, and entertainment.

Main Street is where you will find all of the shopping you will need. A local IGA is open 9-9 every day for your convenience. Coupled with a number of specialty stores all along the street, you are sure to find anything you need to make that perfect dinner, or entertain friends. Of course, all our products are bought directly from our South-West and Australian partners, so you know that what you are eating is fresh.

For the men of the family, the Blackwood Brook Football Club is open for business. The club is open for any blokes of any age, either to play in one of our divisions, or just to be apart of the football culture! There is of course, a junior league and a senior league, so the little ones can play as well. For those who are not all that attracted to AFL, Blackwood Brook Sporting Facility also contains a netball court and several tennis courts for the social player.

Not shy on the services either, Blackwood Brook has its own hospital and medical centre, so there is no need to travel far if an emergency does occur. Police and Fire Fighters are also on call 24/7 for the safety and protection of our residents.

So come and visit Blackwood Brook. We’ve got everything you need, and more.
